What is hairpainting? Or hair painting, you say....

Have you been hearing the words hairpainting, hair painting or hand painted highlights more and more often lately? Well, if you haven't... then you should be. It's been all the rage in New York, for the past few years, and is slowly spreading elsewhere.

To be technical, hairpainting is a specific type of balayage. Balayage has been around for decades, especially in Europe. The term hairpainting lends itself to a style that has much broader strokes and is not intended to mimic foil highlights. No heavy streaks coming out of the scalp.

Yet, it can be amazingly natural.

Or even quite dramatic, depending on how you do it.

But either way, there is a softness in how the pressure the stylist applies, near the scalp, that allows for an incredible subtleness and amazingly natural grow out.

I recently went to a fantastic workshop in Brooklyn, NY offered by the amazing Jenny Regec of  The Paint Box   It was a day of awe inspiring inspiration, and mad hands on application. Over the course of the day, I had my hands on 3 models of my own, and was able to create 3 different styles.

First, was Joanna. With her, she had old box color on her mid lengths and ends. I added a rich brown to her roots through the mids, and painted some highlights throughout. Then we followed with a beautiful red/copper glaze.

Then, I had Ewa. She had a fun short haircut and already uses a blonde haircolor. We decided to add some fun, creative placement highlights into her hair. It's amazing how natural they looked, and how softly they will grow out for her.

Finally, there was Courtney. She had some older highlights. So, we added more, still keeping them softer closer to her roots. Then we finished them with a beautiful, apricot glaze, which really brought it all together.

This technique is amazing, and I can't wait to start utilizing it on my clients here in Vero Beach. If we haven't already talked about these options for your hair, give me a call and we can set up a consultation. I'll let you know if it is right for you, and what the best option will be.
